course is extremely beginner friendly, presuming no prior
experience or knowledge in games development. You’ll
be studying the RSL Creative Digital Media (Game Design)
Level 2 Certificate, a coursework-only qualification with a
focus on developing skills and knowledge for the games

CONTENT
• Unity Game Engine: Get hands-on with Unity, one of the
most widely used game engines in the industry, building
and testing your own games from the ground up.
• Game Design Fundamentals: Explore core concepts in
game design, including mechanics, player experience,
and what makes a game truly engaging and fun to play.
• Level Design: Learn the art and science of crafting game
levels — designing spaces that challenge players, tell
stories, and keep them coming back for more.
• Game Coding: Develop your programming skills using
real game development languages and logic, bringing
interactivity and functionality to your projects.
• Marketing & Showcasing: Learn how to present and
promote your games to an audience, building the skills
to share your work confidently and professionally.
• Collaboration & Planning: Work as part of a team, using
planning tools and creative processes to organise ideas,
divide tasks, and build the best games possible together.
• Portfolio Building: Develop a strong body of game
projects that showcases your design thinking, technical
ability, and creative vision.
This course provides a practical introduction to film
production, alongside a clear understanding of how the
film and media industry operates.
You will develop your skills through guided production
work, while also completing a substantial research project
into the film industry.

• How to research and present written work
• Camera, sound and basic editing techniques
• How to plan and deliver short video projects
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Standard Foundation Level entry requirements
No previous experience is required, although an interest in film or
moving image production is essential, plus a willingness to engage
with both practical and written work.
ASSESSMENT
100% coursework across two units.
You will be assessed through:
• A written research project (majority of the course)
• Practical video production work
• Coursework portfolio
You will also be required to travel independently off-site without
supervision for filming moving image work.
