Interested in German?
In German, learners will engage with topics covering identity, cultural aspects,
the environment, German politics post-1990 as well as technology and its role
in our world both today and in the future. Higher Level students will delve into
the social and historical contexts of literature and how these arise from both a
past- and contemporary Germany, studying Bernhard Schlink’s Der Vorleser
and Karin König’s Ich fühl’ mich so 昀椀fty-昀椀fty.
Both Standard- and Higher Level will encounter a range of authentic texts (i.e.
newspaper articles, podcasts, literary texts, social media posts, interviews,
cartoons) and audio-visual resources across a range of topics produced for
native German speakers to ensure a thorough immersion in German language
and culture. Students are strongly encouraged to keep up to date with the
current a昀昀airs of the German-speaking world and to take a genuine interest in
the role of German-speaking countries in today’s world. There is an increasing
emphasis on grammar acquisition to help students produce ever increasing
accurate language.
