CAREERS & STUDENT
PROGRESSION
Varndean Sixth Form College prides
itself in its excellent progression rate and
offers extensive support to students by an
experienced, dedicated and professional
careers team. Throughout their journey at
Varndean, students receive careers related
support delivered through their weekly
tutorial sessions or a 1:1 appointment for
advice. Guidance is given to help students
make choices about their next steps,
whether that be applying for university, an
apprenticeship, employment or planning a
structured ‘gap year’.
The Careers team also organise a diverse
range of events; including an annual
Apprenticeship Fair, Personal Statement
Writing Workshop, a Foundation Level Work
Experience Day, the Varndean Internship
Programme (VIP) where students work with
an international employer, mock interviews
with local employers, as well as the HE
Information Day at the University of Sussex
and UCAS Fair at The Brighton Centre.
Through the ‘Careers Spotlight’ programme,
curriculum areas also invite employers in
to talk to students about their field of work
and what it is like to be employed in that
occupational sector.
We take immense pride in seeing our
students move on to study at some of the
most prestigious universities in the UK,
such as Oxford and Cambridge, Bristol,
Durham, Exeter, Imperial College, King’s
College London, Leeds, LSE, Manchester,
Nottingham, Sheffield, UCL, Warwick, and
York, pursuing a wide range of subjects and
continuing their academic journeys with
confidence and ambition.
